ASIS International is a membership organisation representing 38,000 security practitioners worldwide. Based in Virginia, USA, the organisation boasts 234 chapters around the world, including Chapter 208 in the UK.

Outside of America, Europe is the second largest region for the organisation. Bassett and Hurst are both looking forward to attending the first meeting of the European Advisory Council which will take place a few days before the 13th European Security Conference & Exhibition next week.

Set for 1-3 April 2014 in The Hague, the Netherlands, the Conference will address a range of topics in security management including supply chain security, loss prevention, hotel security, intellectual property, oil and gas security, maritime piracy, terrorism, executive protection, internal theft and fraud, competitive intelligence, brand protection, physical security, cyber security, investigations, due diligence and global business issues.

Between 450 and 500 delegates are expected to attend the conference.

Hurst told SecurityNewsDesk that he was looking forward to attending his first Advisory Council meeting and explained that by linking it to the conference, it was easier for the volunteer members to attend the meeting.

He and Bassett join the Advisory Council with a view to taking on whatever portfolios the group needs them to adopt.

Hurst said, “I’ve been member of the ASIS European Conference Committee for a number of  years and I was really delighted to have been invited to join the EAC and look forward to working with colleagues across Europe.”

Bassett commented, “It is a tremendous honour to be invited to join the EAC, and like Mike I look forward to further developing the relationship with my European colleagues, which in turn will no doubt compound ASIS’s position as the pre-eminent organisation for security professionals in Europe.”

The UK chapter currently has 821 members, up from 750 last year and an all-time high-water mark. It won two awards for member recruitment recently, and Hurst was also recently recognised for his membership recruitment efforts.
